Dating back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain 2,000 years ago, Halloween, or "All Hallows Eve", was a time to light fires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts and spirits. Celebrated each year on October 31st, the day before All Saints' Day, Halloween straddles the line between fall and winter and life and death. Today, people continue the tradition of ushering in the winter season and long nights with gatherings, costumes and treats. Halloween is a time of celebration, superstition and child-friendly activities.
